MICAH P. HINSON
November 16th – n 20.30
Teatro Magnani – Fidenza
Micah P. Hinson’s is a life with the timing and script of those films that play on American stereotypes.
In the background is a deep America, populated by cattle and gruff ranchers with wide-brimmed hats.
Micah is of Chickasaw descent, a Native American tribe.
He was born in Memphis but grew up in Texas in the 1980s in a family of strict religious observants with all that this entails.
Around the age of twelve, he learns to play the guitar and soon breaks free from the bigoted dynamics of what he himself describes as a sectarian environment.
He does everything he can to live as a rebel, but rebellion often goes down the path of drugs and Micah ends up in it as a teenager.
Not yet of age he runs away from home with his woman, a Vogue model who soon abandons him.
Drugs, music and then evictions, lack of dollars and the bars that in an American-movie are never lacking.
He started recording songs, distributed them to his contacts and released his first album in 2004 thanks to the intercession of a friend who got him a record contract.
He had good success and music seemed to solve most of his problems.
He composes introspective ballads, an outlet for his torments and a refuge for his failures. However, Micah’s life is a rollercoaster, and for every ascent there is always a dizzying descent.
In 2011 he has a car accident and risks losing the use of his arms.
Three years later, he released “Micah P. Hinson And The Nothing”, an emblematic album.
A hoarse and deep voice, a folk imprint and lyrics that retrace the key moments of his turbulent existence.
In 2022 he met guitarist Alessandro “Asso” Stefana and less than a week recorded “I Lie To You” during a stay in Irpinia.
Italy marks his artistic and personal rebirth after a long depression.
He has just released his new single “Oh Sleepyhead”, a song with an almost band-like sound and stylistically distant from his introspective previous production.
Micah says he has been reborn and the album announced for October is meant to be an invitation to leave behind what no longer belongs to us.
